About
Bio
Andreas Wyss was born in Olten, Switzerland, in 1998. He began taking drum lessons at the age of three, later adding double bass studies at the Musikschule Olten. After a brief period at grammar school, he left at fifteen to attend the École de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle (EJMA) in Lausanne. In 2016, he began studying pop music with a major in electric bass and classical composition at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he earned his master’s degree in 2021.
Throughout his career, Andreas Wyss has performed and recorded with a wide range of artists, including Endo Anaconda (Stiller Has), Hedreich Nichols, Pedro Lenz, Kilian Ziegler, Liam Maye, Rhonda Dorsey, iQuattro, Damian Meier, Pflanzplätz, Tiziana Gulino, and many others.
He has been honoured with several awards, including the Förderpreis der Stiftung Rentsch Olten (2017), the GfK Awardfor a No. 1 album on the Swiss Album Charts (Endosaurusrex, 2017), the Sonderpreis der Stiftung Rentsch Olten (2021), and the Förderpreis Musik des Kantons Solothurn (2025).
Andreas Wyss teaches music at secondary school and electric bass at the music school in Olten.
In the spring of 2024, the single “Orbit” was released as the first work of his solo project, created in collaboration with vocalist Timon Dueblin — a soundscape capturing the vastness of outer space. In the autumn of 2024, the instrumental EP “Chasing Doctor P” followed — a mini concept album built from samples, driving rhythms, and deep, powerful synth basses. It serves as a kind of soundtrack to an imaginary film. In late summer 2025, the single “All My People” was released in collaboration with Eli Wolff — a hymn to unity and togetherness. Andreas Wyss produces his music entirely in his own studio — from recording the instruments to production, mixing, and mastering.

Philosophy
As a young child, Andreas Wyss discovered the music of Bach, Mahler, Stravinsky, and Ravel in his parents’ CD collection. All four remain enduring sources of inspiration for his work. He draws from the intricate counterpoint of Bach and Mahler, the polyrhythmic grooves of Stravinsky, and the richly textured, three-dimensional soundscapes of Ravel. Whether on bass or in production: every note should have a purpose and serve the composition and its mood. Regarding his bass playing, Andreas Wyss says: «Part of every bassist’s development process involves listening to and studying other bassists. But if that’s all you do, you can end up copying them, thinking inside the box and losing sight of the big picture. That’s why, in addition to analysing bassists, I also find it fascinating to study the music of classical composers.»
Besides music
Andreas Wyss loves cooking (and eating). Reading books and learning languages are also among his interests. He enjoys spending time with friends and going for walks. His favourite animal is the giant anteater and his favourite vegetable is celeriac.
